Youth Count - To involve youth in a range of activities and
educational opportunities that promote and support their passage to
being healthy, responsible and law-abiding citizens and show what
assets youth are to the community
ASANDC and our Youth
Council service over 500 community youth through our Youth Count,
tobacco, teen pregnancy prevention, garden and environmental programs.
The Youth Council sponsored and participated in 12 community events,
with attendance ranging from 60 to 500 of both youth and adults.
Seniors
- "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" - To connect with our seniors
citizens in ways that meet their needs and draw upon their strengths.
ASANDC
has had programs for seniors in the community almost since its
inception. The agency is well connected to the seniors in the
neighborhood. ASANDC has 100 active seniors that participate in our
seniors program. Our seniors program addresses the need to keep seniors
self-sufficient, active, independent, and healthy.
Our long
term goals for seniors are to keep them active in the community,
connected with their families, assistance with finding needed services,
and bringing their wisdom and knowledge to our young people through
intergenerational activities and events.
Housing that is
Affordable - To be actively involved in the planning and development of
quality housing that is affordable, including strategies for the
prevention of homelessness.
Through our community development
activities ASANDC, had been addressing the affordable housing issues
since the mid 1980's. ASANDC has purchased, renovated, and sold over 25
properties for low to moderate income for single family housing,
facilitated the demolition of 15 nuisance and abandoned properties,
developed nine units of rental housing for under-employed men,
purchased and directed the renovation of a six-plex, and
renovated/developed six units of affordable rental housing.

MCASA Homes - An Affordable Option for Homeownership.
Criteria for Eligibility:
- Is a first time home buyer
- Has completed or agrees to complete the Home Stretch and Credit Smart classes.
- Has an annaul household income between $41,000 and $62,000
- Has been employed continuously for at least 18 months.
- Willing to enter into a contract-for-deed and is able to purchase the title from MCASA, LLC within 6 to 24 months.
- Is actively resolving any debt and poor credit.
- Is committed to working with a homeownership counselor.
- Has a family size of two to six individuals.
Services MCASA offers: Homeownership counseling and home maintenance are also part of this program. The topics include:

- Property taxes and insurance
- Qualifying for a mortgage
- Loan application process
- Being a good neighbor
- Foreclosure prevention

Economic Development - To help stimulate more sustainable small businesses and commercial development in the coummunity.
ASANDC
began its Micro-Entrepreneur training and Loan Program in July of 1993.
Nine businesses are still in operation. Four have been highly
successful.
University-Dale Apartments:
Mixed Income Rental Apartments. 92 units of one and two bedrooms. Six
townhomes that are two bedrooms plus. Partnership between Legacy
Development & Management and ASANDC. Winner of the Minneapolis St.

Civic Engagement: Central Corridor organization and advocacy
- Co-foundation of the Central Corridor Equity Coalition
- Representation and activism on the Central Corridor Task Force and the Met Council Community Adisory Coalition
- Organizing / visioning for the Unidale Mall and other important lots on Uinversity Ave.
- Preservation of heritage along our corridors.
- Addressing neighborhood issues and block club building.
- Community PEace Celebration, the Neighborhood Peace Force, and the Peace Sanctuary.
- Programs for our seniors and our youth.
- The Power of One Plus One
- The power for community members to collectively decide the direction of the neighborhood.
- Through
this community engagement initiative, participants are provided an $100
monthly stipend to become resident leaders and organizers working to
build power for themselves and their neighbors.
- Main
responsibilities include attending monthly group meetings and
leadership trainigings, to engage in a series of one-to-one meetings
discussing the community and its quality of life.

To promote workforce development for the creation of livable wage jobs in our community.
ASANDC
began assisting community residents with job development, placement and
workforce development in the year 2001. 20% of the job applicants
placed have held their jobs since 2001. Starting wages have ranged from
$7.00 to $15.00+ per hour.
